The heart of our Youth Program is to provide a safe place for children, parents and families to experience clean air, hope, healing and encouragement, thorough direct interaction with some of God’s most majestic creatures. In each horse session, through a myriad of methods, there is one main purpose—to mentor the children through interaction with a trusting, loyal animal you really can’t have at home. Most children have been closer to an elephant at the zoo, than a horse.
This is accomplished by inviting children to interact with the horses and the instructors work hard to pair children with an activity or horse that will encourage them forward toward skill building and personal growth.
All activities at the stable grounds are chosen at the discretion of each individual leader. Some of these session activities include working with and riding horses, arts & crafts, games, and life skills. A secondary goal of our Youth Program at Black Saddle is to educate children in equine husbandry and safety. All activities with the children are structured to accomplish our primary goal of creating a safe and loving environment to mentor the child with skills that will last a lifetime.
The majority of children who come to Black Saddle Ranch are drawn to the ranch because of the horses. These are the children that will learn to correctly handle, groom, and ride horses during their sessions. Each session is tailored on the specific needs of the both the child and the horse on any given day.
